Myriam Casseus, PhD, MPH, MA
Biography
Dr. Myriam Casseus is an Instructor at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of Population Health, Quality, and Implementation Science (PopQuIS). She has a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in psychology from the City College of New York. She earned a Master of Public Health at the Rutgers School of Public Health with dual concentrations in health education and behavioral sciences, and health systems and policy. She later earned a Doctorate in Public Health from the Rutgers School of Public Health in health education and behavioral sciences. Dr. Casseus then held a postdoctoral fellowship sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau. She also completed a HRSA Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Postdoctoral Fellowship. She conducts research on health and health care disparities among pediatric populations. Dr. Casseus is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) with experience serving people with disabilities and culturally diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. She serves as the principal investigator of a Robert E. Leet and Clara Guthrie Patterson Trust career development award.

Dr. Casseus’s research interests include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), health and health care disparities, disability, and substance use – particularly among pediatric populations. Much of her research leverages clinical data and large nationally representative datasets to examine health and health care disparities/inequities among children and adolescents with special health care needs to improve quality of service delivery for these populations and their families. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including: The Journal of Pediatrics, Autism, Autism Research, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Journal of Adolescent Health, Disability and Health Journal, Addictive Behaviors, and the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities.
Research Summary
Dr. Casseus’s current research examines associations between ADHD and health, socioeconomic factors, and other outcomes. Her studies include:
- Using nationally represented data to explore the mental and physical health of children and adolescents.
- Examination of co-occurring ASD and ADHD and health outcomes among children and adolescents using large nationally representative datasets.
- In collaboration with Dr. Nancy Reichman (CHI), Dr. Kristine Schmitz (CHI), Dr. Hope Corman (Princeton), and Dr. Kelly Noonan (Princeton), exploring associations between attention problems in middle childhood and physical health, flourishing, and other critical outcomes in adolescence and young adulthood using longitudinal data from a U.S. birth cohort.
